Oonly Organic – Frequently Asked Questions

At Oonly Organic, we believe you should feel good about what touches your skin every day. Below are answers to the questions we hear most often, so your experience stays simple, clear, and worry-free.

About Oonly Organic

What is Oonly Organic?

Oonly Organic is a non-toxic hand and body lotion made with food-grade quality oils, including certified organic extra virgin coconut oil. It’s created for everyday use by people who care deeply about what goes on their skin, from families and healthcare workers to anyone who uses lotion often and intentionally.

We crafted it with both ingredient integrity and real-world performance in mind.

Inspired by 1,000 years of skincare wisdom, Oonly Organic reflects our belief that peace of mind should be part of your daily care, because feeling good about what you use matters just as much as how it works.

Where is Oonly Organic made?

Oonly Organic is manufactured in the United States.

How did Oonly Organic start?

Oonly Organic began with a simple need: a lotion that worked reliably, felt good to use, and could be trusted completely.

Our founder, Dr. Ronald Lints, struggled with dry, cracked hands from frequent handwashing. Like many people, he also felt uneasy not fully knowing what was inside the lotions he used every day. So he started experimenting in his kitchen, looking for something honest, gentle, and effective.

After a few thoughtful trials, he found a clean, straightforward formula that truly worked, and that’s how Oonly Organic came to life.

Who makes Oonly Organic?

Oonly Organic was created by Dr. Lints in Traverse City, Michigan.

We partner with a trusted manufacturer based in Idaho, and we work closely with formulators who share our commitment to thoughtful, minimal processing and high-quality standards.

We’re a small, intentional team, based in Northern Michigan, and every decision, right down to shipping your order from Traverse City, reflects that care.

Why use food-grade ingredients?

Food-grade refers to a level of ingredient purity, not a suggestion that the product is meant to be eaten. This is still skincare, thoughtfully made for your skin.

We chose food-grade quality because many of our customers use lotion often — nurses, caregivers, parents, teachers, and anyone washing their hands throughout the day. They deserve something gentle, dependable, and made with care.

For us, it’s simply about integrity: choosing ingredients we feel good about using ourselves, every day.

Why do you have “organic” in your name?

Because our core ingredients, including extra virgin coconut oil, are certified organic and fair trade. That certification comes with documentation, third-party verification, and fully traceable sourcing, and we believe that level of accountability should be reflected in our name.

Our products also meet the 70% threshold required to qualify as “Made with Organic Ingredients,” which aligns with our commitment to ingredient integrity from the ground up.

That said, the finished lotion itself isn’t certified organic as a complete product. We’re honest about that distinction because transparency matters more to us than a seal.

What makes Oonly Organic different from other lotions?

A few thoughtful choices guide us:

  • Food-grade ingredient quality — We hold our ingredients to a higher standard of purity because lotion is something you use every day.
  • Certified organic coconut oil — Our formula is built around certified organic, fair trade, extra virgin coconut oil.
  • Low-heat processing — Our oils are handled gently to help preserve their natural properties.
  • Stability tested — We test for consistency so your lotion performs the same way over time.
  • A formulation philosophy rooted in expertise — Oonly Organic began with Dr. Lints’ approach to ingredient safety and simplicity, and that mindset continues to shape how we make decisions today.
  • Honest positioning — We don’t claim to treat or heal. We make a lightweight, fast-absorbing moisturizer designed for daily comfort.
What’s the difference between certified organic and just “organic”?

“Certified organic” means an ingredient has been verified to meet USDA organic standards through an accredited third-party certifier.

These standards cover how the ingredient is grown and handled, everything from avoiding synthetic pesticides to maintaining traceable, soil-healthy farming practices.

Our formula meets the 70% threshold required to qualify as “Made with Organic Ingredients.” The bulk of what you see on our label, like coconut oil, grape seed oil, cocoa butter, and arrowroot powder, is certified organic, not just organic in name.

We’re transparent about which ingredients are certified and how they contribute to the integrity of the formula.

Section 02: Products and Ingredients

What ingredients are in Oonly Organic?

You can find the full ingredient list on our Ingredients page. At a high level, we use:

  • Certified organic extra virgin coconut oil (Cocos Nucifera)
  • Certified organic grapeseed oil (Vitis Vinifera)
  • Organic cocoa butter (Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter)
  • Olive-derived squalane
  • A gentle, food-grade preservative system

Everything is chosen for purity, performance, and peace of mind.

Is Oonly Organic vegan?

Yes. All our ingredients are plant-derived. We don’t use any animal-derived ingredients or byproducts. You can view our full ingredients list on our Ingredients Page.

Does Oonly Organic contain sulfites, phthalates, etc?

No. We formulated Oonly Organic without:

  • Parabens
  • Sulfites
  • Phthalates
  • Synthetic fragrance
  • Petroleum
  • Glycerin
  • Formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing agents

We kept the ingredient list simple and intentional.

You claim no glycerin, but glycerin is FDA-approved and safe?

Glycerin is widely used in skincare and generally considered safe. Our decision to leave it out comes down to formulation philosophy, not concern about its safety.

Glycerin can be derived from either plant or animal sources, and tracing that origin isn’t always straightforward. Rather than introduce uncertainty, we chose to build hydration through ingredients we could clearly source and feel confident about, including organic coconut oil, grape seed oil, cocoa butter, olive-derived emulsifiers, amino acids, and olive-based squalane.

For us, it’s simply about creating a balanced formula that absorbs beautifully and reflects our preference for simple, intentional skincare.

Where do you source your ingredients?

Our raw materials come from the USA, South America, Italy, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka. We prioritize traceability and work with suppliers who share our values around quality and ethical sourcing.

Why organic coconut oil?

We chose certified organic extra virgin coconut oil because we wanted a core ingredient we could trace, one with clear documentation and third-party verification.

Coconut oil naturally contains mixed tocopherols (a form of Vitamin E) and has been used in skincare for generations. For us, it felt like the right foundation for a hand and body lotion meant to be used every day.

What is low-heat processing?

Low-heat processing means we handle our oils gently, using lower temperatures during formulation to help preserve more of their natural compounds.

High-heat refining can strip away some of those properties in exchange for a longer shelf life or lighter texture. We chose a middle path, gentle enough to retain what matters, stable enough to perform reliably over time.

How is Oonly Organic tested for safety?

We take safety and consistency seriously.

We run in-house stability testing, including freeze/thaw cycles and incubation, to make sure the lotion stays stable and performs well in real-world conditions. Every batch is also tested before they head out the door to verify quality and consistency.

We don’t take shortcuts. We test so you can feel confident using Oonly Organic every day.

Section 03: Usage & Application

What’s the proper way to use Oonly Organic Hand and Body Lotion?

Apply a small amount to clean, dry skin and massage gently until absorbed. You can use it on your hands, body, elbows, feet,  anywhere your skin could use a little extra nourishment.

It’s designed to absorb quickly without a greasy feel, so you can use it throughout the day, as often as needed.

Can I use it on my face?

You can, though Oonly Organic was specifically formulated as a hand and body lotion, and its texture may feel a bit rich for some facial skin types.

Some customers do choose to use it on their face, but if your skin is sensitive, reactive, or acne-prone, we recommend doing a small patch test first. Every person’s skin responds a little differently.

As always, listen to your skin and use what feels best for you.

How much should I use?

A little goes a long way. Start with a pea-sized amount for your hands or a quarter-sized amount for larger areas like arms or legs. You can always add more if needed.

How often should I apply it?

You can use it as often as your skin needs it. Some people use it once or twice a day. Healthcare workers, caregivers, or people who wash their hands frequently might use it more often.

There’s no right or wrong answer; it depends on your skin and lifestyle.

How should I store Oonly Organic?

Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the cap tightly closed when not in use. Extreme temperatures (very hot or very cold) can affect texture, but they don’t impact the safety or effectiveness of the lotion.

What’s the shelf life for this lotion?

Oonly Organic has a shelf life of three years from the date of manufacture when stored properly and unopened. For the best quality, we recommend using it within one year after opening. You’ll find a batch code on the bottom of your tube if you ever need help confirming the production date.

Section 04: Skin Concerns & Safety

Is Oonly Organic safe for sensitive skin?

We formulated Oonly Organic to be gentle and non-irritating. It’s made without common irritants like synthetic fragrance, parabens, and sulfates, and we use food-grade ingredients throughout.

Every skin is different, though. If you’re sensitive or allergy-prone, we recommend doing a quick patch test before using it regularly.

Can I use it if I have eczema or psoriasis?

Many people with eczema or psoriasis-prone skin include Oonly Organic in their routine because it’s designed to be gentle, hydrating, and free of common irritants.

That said, we don’t make medical claims. If you have a diagnosed condition, it’s always best to check with your healthcare provider first.

Is it safe to use if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

We formulated Oonly Organic with food-grade ingredient quality and left out ingredients we considered unnecessary or potentially concerning.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are personal, and what feels right varies. If you have specific concerns about using any skincare product on your hands, body, or elsewhere during pregnancy or breastfeeding, we’d suggest consulting with your healthcare provider.

You’re also welcome to share our ingredient list with them. We’re happy to provide any additional information they might need.

Can I use it for my children?

Oonly Organic is clean and safe for all ages. Many families use it together, on hands, body, arms, legs, elbows, feet, anywhere skin needs extra care.

If you have any concerns, we suggest sharing our ingredient list with your doctor.

I have a nut allergy. Can I use this?

Oonly Organic contains coconut oil, which is botanically a fruit but is sometimes grouped with tree nuts due to FDA labeling regulations.

Most people with tree nut allergies can use coconut oil without issue. But if you have a known coconut allergy or severe nut sensitivities, it’s best to consult with your allergist before use.

We don’t use peanuts, almonds, walnuts, cashews, or other common tree nuts in our formula.

Should I patch test?

If your skin tends to react or you’ve had issues with skincare before, a patch test is a smart step.

You can apply a small amount to your inner wrist or elbow, wait 24 hours, and check for redness or irritation. If your skin looks and feels fine, you’re good to go.

Section 05: Sustainability and Values

Is Oonly Organic cruelty-free?

Yes. We don’t test on animals, and we don’t work with suppliers or manufacturers who test on animals.

Our formula is also vegan; we use only plant-derived ingredients and no animal byproducts.

Is your packaging recyclable?

We’re working toward fully recyclable packaging. Our tubes are made with 50% post-consumer recycled content. Our bubble mailers for the 3.38 oz. tubes are made with a high level of recycled content, and our 12 oz. bottles are made with 100% recycled content.

Many local programs accept this type of material, but recycling rules vary from place to place, so it’s always a good idea to check your local guidelines to see what’s accepted where you live.

If you have specific questions about recycling Oonly Organic packaging, reach out to support@oonlyorganic.com, and we’ll provide guidance.

What are Oonly’s sustainability practices?

We care about ingredient integrity, ethical sourcing, and minimizing waste wherever we can.

That means:

  • Choosing certified organic, fair trade ingredients
  • Working with suppliers who share our values
  • Formulating with food-grade ingredient quality (less waste, more care)
  • Shipping with minimal, recyclable materials

We’re not perfect, but we’re thoughtful. And we’re always working to do better.
